So you decided to turn your health around and you want to clean up your lifestyle and diet.  Wonderful! In order to make that change in your life, you will need to make some changes in your kitchen first. Turning it into a Healthy Kitchen will take few steps. For starters, Healthy Kitchen will need the right kind of tools and equipment to help you make the best dishes under the sun.  Inspired by Raw & Simple, here is my list of Top 10 Healthy Kitchen Equipment Must-Haves. (this article contains affiliate links).

10. Good Knife

Good knife is a kitchen staple.  There is nothing worse than trying to slice a tomato with a dull knife, or using bread knife for spreading. Dull knife can be very hard on the wrist and joints.  Using a dull knife or the wrong type of knife is one of the main reasons for kitchen injuries.  Do yourself a favor: invest in good quality knives and keep them sharp at all times!  You may consider this Victorino Chef’s Knife, which scored Top 5 Knives of 2017 by Best Reviews.

9. Mason Jars

Mason jars are making a comeback recently, especially with the help of the beautiful smoothie photos on Instagram. However, mason jars are more versatile than that. They make awesome storage containers for soups, veggies, spreads and fermented goods.  Not to mention the endless DIY Crafts projects!  Grab a dozen Here.

8. Cutting Board

It may be a no brainer to some, but I confess, I’ve seen people cutting up their veggies (and meat too!) on glass, plastic or kitchen counter itself.  My ex-boyfriend used a large, broken ceramic tile he found outside.  I’m not kidding you!  The proper cutting board will be made out of wood or bamboo.  You may want to invest in one double sided, or two different ones: one for sweet tasting ingredients with grooves around it to collect the juice, and one flat for savory ingredients. You never ever want to mix the two. Mixing up the flavors WILL affect the final dish.  Here is an Example of a good cutting board.

7. Mixing Bowls

Another seemingly no brainer, but how many times you’ve ran out of bowls to mix stuff in? I know I have, and I know how frustrating it can be when you just don’t have enough containers for serving or for preparation.  On one of my shopping excursions I found this amazing set of nesting bowls, one fitting into the other.  Check them out, I have a set in shades of blue.

6. Mandoline

This funny instrument isn’t to play with (pun absolutely intended!). This handy little invention makes chopping, slicing and peeling so much easier!  The Mandoline Slicer is a board with different blades, which allows you to slice pretty much anything.  You can evenly slice fruits, veggies and tubers into the thinnest discs possible without injuring your fingers.  In addition, it makes slicing a lot faster than by using a knife.  Take a look at this handy Mandoline, it has 5 interchangeable blades, thickness control and it comes with bonus hand peeler and a cleaner brush.

5. Spiralizer

If you are planning on adding veggie spaghetti to your diet, this handy Spiralizer should be in your Healthy Kitchen Equipment lineup. It’s great for anything from zucchini spaghetti noodles to making garnish flowers out of carrots!

4. Dehydrator

The beauty of a dehydrator is that it allows you to eat foods containing all the vitamins and digestive enzymes intact.  With a dehydrator, it is so much cheaper to make healthy snacks on the go, fruit leathers and power bars.  Additionally, you will know exactly what goes into your food.  Thanks to a dehydrator we can enjoy living foods full of enzymes, such as kale chips.  My favorite one is Excalibur. The first dehydrator I ever purchased was a 4-tray one.  I instantly regretted not getting a 9-tray.  Once you use it, you will understand why.

3. Food processor

Food processor is a staple in any kitchen.  It is essential to making soups, purees, preparing pastes, pestos, dips, spreads, and making dough and nut butters.  You can grind whole grains into flour and make bread crumbs.  Food processor can handle jobs that your regular blender won’t.  It’s especially great for making foods with thick consistency.  If you’re serious about upping your kitchen game, here is a Food Processor you may want to consider.

2. Juicer

Many people don’t understand the benefits of owning a juicer. They often mistake it for a blender. In short, juicer will separate the juice from the pulp, while extracting all the vitamins into the juice.  This is an excellent way to give your body a copious amounts of bio-available vitamins without the necessity of starting the whole digesting process.  Juicing is excellent for upping the immune system and aiding your body with natural healing from many diseases.  It was juicing that made a major difference in My Recovery from Rheumatory Arthritis.  I have been using the Champion Juicer.

1. Blender

I can’t imagine my life without the Vitamix.  Without a blender, smoothies would not exist.  Smoothies are a must for a healthy lifestyle. They are fast, easy and nutritious.  They’re the perfect on-the-go meal. There is no limit to how creative you can get with them. Breakfast smoothies, green smoothies, fruit smoothies, smoothie bowls… the possibilities are endless! Join the ever growing smoothie movement towards better health with a good, powerful blender!

I have a juicer as well, but hardly ever use it. I find it too much of a hassle to juice a meal, if I can make me a quick sandwich as well. Though, my reasons for wanting to juice are very different from yours, so I can imagine it’s been of quite some use for you.

  18. September 27, 2017 / 11:30 am

I love using a spiralizer to make zoodles! 🙂 I also have gotten so much use out of my NutriBullet. I’d really love to have a Vitamix as well.

I’ve recently bought a cute spiralizer like a large pencil sharpener style to see how I get on with it before investing in a larger unit. I love it! I never used to have courgette in my diet and now can’t get enough courgetti spaghetti. I am a massive fan of mason and Kilner jars – maybe too much haha x
